Ten Thousand Dirhams

Blog Prompt:  Imagine that you woke up this morning and taped on your pillow was an envelope with a check for ten thousand dirhams.  You can go to the Credit Agricole bank downtown in Ifrane and cash it, but there is a rule.  You can not spend the 10,000 dhs on yourself.  You must either give it away to charity or spend it on someone else.  You can not be involved in using the money at all and you must spend all 10,000 dhs.

Write a paragraph (8-10) sentence, using good grammar, vocabulary, and punctuation that explains how you spent the money.  Describe why you decided to give the money to a certain charity and how that charity will use the money to help other people. OR write about who you decided to spend the money, how you spent the money on that person (or people), and why you chose to spend the money on that specific person (or people).

The deadline for this blog post is midnight tonight, Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2015. I will not give credit to blog posts submitted after this deadline.

  1. This morning when I woke I was lucky but not enough. The check for ten thousand dirhams has to be spent in charity or someone else. It didn’t take me so long to decide how I will spend it. My mother is the first person that has come on my mind. I chose her, because of all what she done for me, and because of my infinite love for her. She is the only person that will never let me down no matter what happens. I thought about an original thing that will have a lot of meaning. Finally, I bought a gold ring, which cost about ten thousand dirhams. I carved our two first names, and the infinity symbol between them. I knew that it would make her very happy, the intention matters more than the value of the ring or money. If I had another envelop with an amount of money and the same conditions, I will choose my mother again.

  2. Having 10,000dhs and not spend it on yourself, that's not fair. I have this chance to be generous and kind, so i decide to spend it on my friend Mouad in order to the the same thing. I will buy him everything he wants: clothes, food, beers.. everything he wants. I will give him happiness. Mouad likes toys, i will buy him a lot of toy cats, remote control cars. Besides, He loves to eat, he can't get enough of eating. that's why I will take him to Forest every night for the whole semester. Like that i will spend the whole 10,000 dhs on Mouad.

  3. This morning, I woke up and I found an envelope with a check for ten thousand dirhams. I was really surprised, I didn’t knew what to do with it. I immediately went to the Credit Agricole bank in Ifrane to cash it. After I took the cash, I tried to join a charity group in Fes. I told them that I had 10.000 DH that I wanted to give for the charity in order to help poor people. We set an appointment so we could go and buy some provisions and goods. It was a group of more than 20 people. We gathered more than 50.000 DH. After that, we went to see people that live in the mountains near Ifrane, they were so happy and pleased because of our visit. It was the best experience that I’ve never had.

  5. After having found the envelope and having read the specific rules concerning the money, my decision was immediately taken with no doubt. For me, the best way to spend this money was to spend it on my parents. They are the only ones who have ever sacrificed everything for my own blooming. Indeed, they didn't go traveling or didn't take any break for a long time just so they could take care of me. They have been talking about spending the New Year in Amsterdam from this summer. It's finally my turn to scratch their back and organize them a one-month trip in their city dream. This whole month would only be focusing on all kinds of relaxation activities. For that, I thought of reserving a big room in a famous hostel in the middle of the countryside, in a town called Ottoland.

  6. I heard that helping someone that you know, and who's in need is much better than helping a certain charity that you don't have a slightest idea about their work. Finding a 10 000 Dhs check, that i can't spend on myself made me think about donating with that money. For that matter, I've chosen to help out the women who sells bread in the "marché's" entrance. I thought that helping them buy their kid's school supplies and clothing would be a great idea. This way their kids would have a better opportunities. They won't have to worry about it anymore. After helping these kids I felt really satisfied, and for the first time I felt that I was selfless, and did something good to the humanity. After all, you never know these kids can become something really important and help into solving humanity's problems in the future.

  7. When you live in a country where the rate of poverty is about 15%, I think that spending 10.000 dhs on charity is, without exaggeration, an easy thing, I can even spend 1 billion Dhs without a problem. I mean, that poor people, unfortunately, are available.
Well, first I would like to say that actually 10.000 dhs are not a big amount of money. So I will go to market, and buy some staple food like sugar, oat, and pasta …
After doing this I will go to a rural area and meet those people, drink a cup of tea with us and give him all I buy from the market. Before I return, I will give him a small amount of money that I leave aside.
On the end of the journey, I will certainly regret to not give him more… So please miss next time, would you might be more generous Miss and give me more …
    Thank you!

  8. Actually I'm not someone how believe in luck, but if I am so lucky to this point , and i have a 10000dhs to give it to other person maybe I will bay a gift with the first 3000dhs for my favorite ante because she always support me ,I think that she is the best person that I had ever meet ,she is a nice, generous, smiley, simple person .I like every thing in her and i want to show her that I am thankful for every moment I have spent with her,so a symbolic present is a nice idea.
For the other 7000dhs i think that i will give it to Syrian an association for the Syrian children i think that they need more so I will give them another 10000DHS from my own money , helping people is a duty,we don't have to wait for a coincidence from credit agricol to help them.

  9. This morning I was not lucky enough. I found a check for 10.000 dirhams that has to be spent in charity or someone else.So I decided to spend it on my sister, who needed medicines because of her illness and on my grandparents, who also needed medicines because they are aged people. So I decide to go to my sister and I gave her 3.000 dhs to go to see the doctor and buy everything she needs to be okay and then I will pay a visit to my grandparents and I will give them the rest (7.000 dhs) so they can take care of their aging. Even thought my parents do those stuffs , I want at least help them once, and when I will start working, I will do my best to help my family in each problem. I think it is more normal to help someone you know as a member of your family, or a close friend than donating to associations where only God knows what they do with this money. Of course I will help associations , because there is not enough people who do it. But if someone who is close to me needs help, he will be the first. Money cannot buy you happiness or health or love, but at least you can try your best to bring them back to the one you loves.

  10. This morning I woke up with a paper on my face, a ten thousand dirhams check for me. What a great way to start the day, until I see some contract, that looks like I signed saying I can’t use it on myself, only charity or someone else. Well then, looks like my plans will be completed before time. My mother is the first person I thought when looking at the contract. First of all, two tickets for Greece, vacations wouldn’t kill her, for probably 4000 Dhs. 2000 Dhs for a nice little Hotel near the beach or with a beautiful view. And with the 4000Dhs left I give it to her to go shopping all the trip long. I think my dad and her deserve every single penny of those 10 000 Dhs for what they did for me.

  11. When I woke up this morning, I found an envelope with a check for ten thousands dirhams. It was also a letter that told the luckier that he has to spend this money for charity or for someone. I really thought to give it to the club of Rotaract AUI. I choose this club because I believe that can do a lot of charity with it. In this club, they do a lot of actions where they help people of the region of Ifrane. Like in the wood donation, they need money to buy wood and give it to people who don't have because of the cold of Ifrane. Otherwise, there is an other action that is Blood donation, they also need money in this action to pay doctors and machines. I've never seen a club that works like this club works, with a lot of motivation. I really believe in this club and I can give them all this ten thousands dirhams, because I am really sure that they will use it for charity.

  12. I woke up this morning and found out 10.000dhs under my pillow. There was a condition, which to not spend this money on yourself. I had the choice between a person and giving it to charity. I didn’t have to think too much. I had already made my choice, which is my mom. In my eyes, she is the only person who deserve this gift. First, because she is the one who gave me life. Then, for all the sacrifices she did for me to raise me. She is the most precious thing I have and the 10000dhs are for her, even if it isn’t enough.

But inside it were a paper that says that I can't spend the money for my personal needs. So I called my mother to ask her what I can do with the money. She told me that it was good to spend a half of it in an orphanage, and the other half in buying food and medicines to some poor families. I loved the idea, so I went to the Credit Agricole bank downtown in Ifrane and cash it. Then, I accomplished my mission de the help of sum friends and of course my lovely mother. Everyone was happy, and I enjoyed helping them more than spending the money for me.

It was a very disturbing, but with this envelop a notice was that I can't spend it for my self. So, I decide to go to the first bank to change the check. the second step was to go to the public school of ifrane, to see if they are virtue to keep this money and to use it in a good way. Once there I was choked to see a lot of children wanting for studying , but who don't have the adequate environment. I went to the director office to give him the money to help those child, and he was very enthusiastic and happy due to what i said to him. I left the school very happy with what I did. Finally I think this issue was the good one, and now there is a lot of child who can study in a good environment.

  15. Nothing is better than waking up rich. How? Well this morning when I woke up, I found a ten thousand dirhams check under my pillow. Unfortunately, I also found a note with the words " This check is supposed to be used for charity, otherwise it won't be valid." . I don't know who sent me the check, or the note, so i just had to follow the instructions. I went to the nearest bank to my home and cashed the check. I prefered to do the distrubiation of the money myself, so i started by the poor people in my neighborhood. I bought some toys for the children, and gave money to their parents, the grownups know how to spend money on important stuff. It feels so right when you create happiness in someone's heart. After giving money to all poor people in my neighborhood, i had some extra money in my pocket, i didnt know who else i can give them to. Suddenly, i met a kid on my way home, he asked me to give him money for food. It was that kid's luckiest day, i gave him all the money i had left. I will never forget the happiness that i saw in his eyes. In a nutshell , the easiest way to be happy is to make others happy.

  17. Here I am, kneeled in front of my pillow, open-mouthed, and petrified in astonishment. We don’t find an envelope with a ten thousand dirhams check everyday. After recovering from my first reaction, a monologue started between me and myself, discussing the different projects that I could start with that money. Ten thousand dirhams seem a lot of money for a girl who has never managed more than 10dh to buy candy; I definitely don’t have the finance sense of my mother. However, I am absolutely sure that this money has to be driven to make a small difference in this world; at least I have the enthusiasm. I will donate this money to Greenpeace, a global environmental organization that tries to solve the issues that endanger our planet. This 10.000dh will be used to protect forests and oceans, to eliminate toxic chemicals, to stop climate change saving the Artic, and to eliminate nuclear weapons. At the end of the day, if each of us donated only 10dh to an honest charity campaign or association, we could make the difference in our planet.

  18. Finding money under your pillow is a miracle that happens once in your life. It wasn’t a traditional celebration or my birthday when this once happened to me; it was an ordinary day, precisely a Monday. I woke up, and as always picked up my phone from underneath my pillow; suddenly was surprised by an envelope with a big amount of money. It was a “ten thousand dirhams” check, but accompanied with a little message saying:” this shouldn’t be spent on you, please make sure to let other people benefit from it; they hardly need it.” After a while I went to the bank down town, cashed it, and then started looking for shops selling old people’s clothes. My aim by doing that was to give those clothes to an elderly. When I first walked in and started buying the most expensive and old fashioned clothes that were hard to find. After that, I was looking for the nursing home that was also an alien concept in a small city like Ifrane. Finally, I have gotten the chance to go to that place where all the tragedy happened. I saw women crying and laying on the floor, many old men that have lost their sight and were maltreated by some mean nurses there. I tried to know what their needs were and figured out that they had a lack of nutrition. Right away, I went to the souk and bought some food supplies to the cookers with the 2000 dirhams left. I also decided to buy them some electronic devices like a TV and a radio to entertain themselves a bit. I saw the extreme happiness and at the same the painful sadness when they started telling me their stories about how did they get here; I couldn’t stop crying because of how emotional I am in this kind of situations. Lastly, when it was time for me to leave I gave each one 200 dirhams from my own money in order to make them feel that I am that child that they never had; I also promised and gotten the authorization from the president of that elderly to come and visit them on my leisure time.

As I'm in the bus heading downtown, I realized that my mother's birthday is one week away. So I decided to go and buy her a present. When I arrived, I couldn't decide which present should I buy, then, I remembered that a friend of mine said to me once that all girls gold lovers; So I bought a very beautiful necklace with diamonds on it which cost me 9550 DHS, and I bought some flowers and chocolate with the rest. 20. “If you find money, what would you with it?” This is question that all of us has been asked at least once in our life. My answer has always been doing shopping and buying food. This morning, I was confronted to a similar situation; when I opened my eyes, I found a check of 10 thousands dirhams on my pillow. I was so happy that I first thought that I was dreaming. After realizing that it was the reality, I ran to the nearest bank in order to cash it. But to my biggest disappointment, I have been told that I cannot spend this money on myself but it should on someone else or for a charity. This is when I started thinking about a cause that is worth this money. My first idea and direct was the Foundation of Lalla Salma against Cancer. Its operations concern the upgrading of the hospitals’ equipment, information and awareness campaigns, or yet the early diagnosis of certain forms of cancer. I deeply believe that in Morocco, we are in need to associations like this in order to raise hope in those patients, and make them know that having cancer, doesn’t automatically mean that you are condemned. After I had given this money, I realized that donating is more than just giving money, it brings us closer to creating the world we would want to live in.

  21. As soon as I opened my eyes this morning, I checked under my pillow for my phone, I felt a piece of paper. I pulled it out and took a brief look at it. It looked somehow like a paycheck. I immediately got up; wore my glasses, and read the paper. It was a 10000 Dh paycheck! I was surprised and happy! The night before,I had met an old friend; Mehdi, who had become homeless. His parents had died a few months before. They hadn't left him a single penny. He could barely afford their funeral expenses. I was in desperate need of any kind of means to help him since he was a close friend. Therefore, as soon as I read through the paycheck, he was the first one that popped up in my mind. I felt the need to make his life better. So I immediately went to this place in the street where Mehdi slept. He was there begging. This time I wasn't feeling bad, instead, I was feeling really happy because I knew that this was it for Mehdi. I knew that it was the day his suffering would end. I went to him, asked him to follow me, and then took him for some shopping. We spent around 2000 Dhs shopping. I then took him to rent a house where he would live. The house cost us 2000 Dhs. I then told Mehdi that he should do something that would earn him some money. So I bought him a motorcycle for 5000 Dhs. The 1000 Dhs that was left was to be spent on fuel money. Mehdi started delivering pizzas for a pizzeria. He is now happily married and has two children.

I'm in the best university in morocco, I eat and drink well, sleep well, and I'm very happy which means that I don't need this money.I'll decide to give to some people how need it and deserve it.
With 10,000dh, I can help a hundred people for 100dh each, they can be homeless people, beggars, or people how live in difficult remote rural areas. I can by them some food, medicines, clothes, school stuff, or just give them the money. They need it more than me. It may seem little, but for them it's a lot. It will help them and make them happy.
Even if had the choice to keep the money for myself I would have donated it because I personally believe the as much as we give god will give us more and more.

It makes me ask myself million questions what am I going to do with it, how I will spend it, and who really need it ? I couldn't find answers, and I hoped that i could spend it in the nearest mall, but its not possible. Therefore, I decide to ask people for help, yet everyone wanted the money for himself. On my home, I was disappointed and solution-less until I met my grandmother's neighbor who is 12 years old selling chewing-gum. I bought the chewing-gum from him and asked him why he is not in school and why he is selling chewing-gum. I thought that he will say that is a school project, yet I was chocked because he started crying and told me that he is raising money for his father surgery. At that moment, I immediately realized where the money should go. We went to his house and we gave the money to his mother I ever asked my father to help them with more money. The family was really happy and they kept wishing me good health and happy life.

  28. If I had 10,000 dirhams to spend in charity, I would have given the money to an association who defends African refugees in Morocco. The reason of my choice is that racism is still present in Morocco and no one gives importance to these people. Also, they are a lot, living in the forest of northern Morocco, they have children, and they are just here because they flee the war, famine, terrorism because they want to live a normal life, and feel in security. Moroccans don’t understand that; they don’t even consider themselves as Africans. I would like this association to use this money in food, clothes and books to give the opportunity to these children to go to school. It is for me the best way to integrate the society. Knowing that I can change some children’s life, would make me really happy, and finally is better than spending this money for my own interests.
