Beware of Humans!

Read this poem, "The Crocodile," by Jack Prelutsky:

Beware the crafty crocodile
who beckons you with clever smile
to join him in the river Nile
and swim with him a little while.

His smile is not a friendly smile,
it springs from his dishonest guile
and treacherous reptilian style.
Beware the crafty crocodile.

Yes, crocodiles can be scary!  But who should be more afraid of whom - people or crocodiles? Are crocodiles more dangerous to people or are people more dangerous to crocodiles? How do people endanger crocodiles?  Which species has killed more captured more of the other?  Research these questions, and apply what you find in your response.

For this creative writing entry, you have two options.  Choose one:

1)  Rewrite the poem from the crocodile's perspective.
2)  Or write a how-to process paragraph on The Crocodile Rules For Dealing With Humans.

Your response is due in the comments section of this blog post after spring break on Tuesday, March 18, 2014.

You are a local news journalist for a failing newspaper publication. Your boss tells you to ramp up the news by getting “creative” and inventing your own stories. What’s the first fake news story you create and publish?

Before we start writing our first essays in class, we will look at some topics on plagiarism. In this spirit, please write about the topic above, imagining you are a journalist who plagiarizes in your work. Please respond to the prompt above in a "comment" below. This a creative writing blog, so your posts are informal, but they should still show your own original work and thoughts, creative effort, and writing skills. Your response should be 1-2 paragraphs in length.  Your post is due on Friday, February, 14th at 21:00 in the evening.
